Osseo matmen face tough competition at Fargo

The Osseo wrestling team traveled to the Fargodome for the always tough “Rumble on the Red” mega tournament on Dec. 29 and 30. The tournament featured 68 teams from five states (Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming).
The young Orioles had their share of tough draws in the opening rounds, finishing 51st with 28 points in the final team standings. No Osseo wrestlers made it to the medal round.
Julio Ceballos advanced the furthest for Osseo just one victory shy of the award podium, with four tournament wins. Ceballos, the Orioles lone senior, suffered an injury in his final match to put a damper on a strong overall performance.
Also winning matches were sophomore Elan Quezada, with a pair of victories at 126 and junior Mitchell Lewision winning two matches at 138.  Sophomore Adam Lanners also added a win at 160.
“It was a week where we saw a few kids make some great improvements against tough competition,” said Osseo coach David Ahmed. “Seeing our only senior go down with an injury was a sad end to 2015. We will look to pick things up this busy week at Park Center and Brooklyn Center.”
Osseo next travels to Park Center for a conference dual with the Pirates Friday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. and then it’s on to the Brooklyn Center/St. Anthony Invitational Saturday, Jan. 9, at 9:30 a.m. at Brooklyn Center High School.
