The Osseo Weightlifting Team took second at the Minnesota State Powerlifting Championships. On Saturday, February 10, nine Osseo High School students represented the school at the Minnesota USA Powerlifting State Meet. The meet consisted of 50 plus athletes from 10 schools around the state. Athletes competed in both individual and team platforms. Individuals were judge on total weight lifted between the bench press, squat, and deadlift. Teams were judged on their best average Wilks score. The Wilks score is a ratio of total weight lifted to body weight.
The team consisted of freshmen Ethan Ringold, sophomore Marcel Sloan-Brown, sophomore Cody Sissaket, sophomore Eric Oliphant, sophomore Calvin Harris, sophomore Ernesto Tablas, junior Tony Jackson, junior Samahjay Hitchcock, and senior Ben Plzak.
Seven of Osseo’s lifters qualified for the USAPL High School Nationals! They are Ethan Ringold, Marcel Sloan-Brown, Calvin Harris, Cody Sissaket, Eric Oliphant, Ernesto Tablas, and Samahjay Hitchcock. Nationals will be held in Appleton, Wisconsin from March 22-25. The team was led by senior captain Ben Plzak.
